Hey Tom,

Fair enough. I never like the guys who only comment negatively on a blog. I'd have to dig through some TCJs for more examples, but I liked the Dykes To Watch Out For review, which was, dare I say, ballsy. And that string of posts on obscure Star Trek supporting actors was fascinating, and I'm not a big ST fan.

Christopher, listen to Bill!

But let's move on to more pleasant topics. Which of my articles do you like? I mean, if you're still around, of course.

Christopher, your assessment of Tom's essay makes me wonder if we read the same piece. You're certainly entitled to your own experience of it, and I don't mean to wrangle. I do struggle on rereading it again to connect the dots between my understanding and your characterization of it.

I find it one of the finest pieces of criticism I read this year or in the last few. It's lucid, well-argued and substantial; it speaks to the wider culture in a way I found resonant; and it has Tom's fine prose and subtle wit.

I thought the points about Lost Girls were really good actually. I did dislike that book itself, and I thought Moore's lack of investment in the characters was actually a major problem. And I found Tom's elucidation of why that might be and how it worked worthwhile.

I don't dislike Moore's work over the last 20 years as much as Tom...but I'd agree that there are problems.
