Finally scrolled through the whole thing. It’s joyous. The end where it becomes one panel per page is especially lovely; you can actually scroll through it and get a flip book effect, turning the movie that got turned into a comic back into an animated moving film. Albeit a really disjointed one.
How long did this take you, Warren?
Thanks all, I’m glad you like it.
Noah, I had the idea to draw a scene when I first heard about the roundtable but it quickly became a crazy plan to draw the whole dang thing. I did some prep drawings that were good but took way too long and I tested some grids to finds one I liked. Once that was done it took me about a week to draw it all averaging about 6 minutes of drawing per minute of film. It took some late nights…
I tried to draw WHILE watching but most of the time I paused and drew. I decided to draw every cut (including jump cuts) but I also drew inside some cuts if the camera/people moved so much that it was like a new shot (look for little lines connecting panels). I also tried to restrain my usual tendency to pluck parts and leave others out to make fanciness. There’s some of that in there though.
Jump cuts included, eh? Mellville would approve. Someone should mail this to JLG.
Hey Warren, as an encore, how about doing “Weekend” next? ;)
Weekend? I haven’t seen it but from the descriptions on the roundtable it sounds sort of scary. Still, a chance to draw mean hippies…
Holy Christ, that was amazing.
Honestly, the main thing about Breathless that sticks with me is Belmondo’s death scene, and I was all set to be a dick and post “Why didn’t you just scan some panels from ‘Blueberry’ or something?”, but you just _nailed_ the timing with the smile at the end. Fantastic.
Thanks, that was the scene I was going to draw from the beginning.
Whoa, this is fantastic.
Pretty effin’ amazing!
Brillo!
