OMG, I just realized those are blotted out caricatures of Godard, aren’t they? That is adorable.
I am also very pleased that you are continuing and extending the proud HU tradition of commenting on a work of art that you are only very marginally acquainted with. Blurry is beautiful.
I didn’t know unfamiliarity is the HU tradition, Noah, you should have told me and I wouldn’t have read anything.
Lovely page, Jason.
You didn’t like Band of Outsiders… dude… what the hell? You should watch it again. I love that movie.
I do like your comic, though.
Derek – I will do that after my daughter is a little older and I’m able to readjust my attention span.
Noah – I wish my intentions were as neat as that, but I’m glad to contribute to the general dilettantism around these parts!
Thanks, James!
And to think I turned down participating in this roundtable because I didn’t think I had anything original to say about Godard… :)
“Band of Outsiders,” by the way, is one of my least favorite Godards of the ’60s. Maybe third from the bottom (“Le Petit Soldat” would be on the bottom). But that’s because so many of them are so damn good! “La Chinoise” would probably be on top. Or “Contempt.”
You can still participate! We’ll extend the roundtable for ya’!
Let me take this opportunity to promote Craig Fischer’s fantastic essay on La Chinoise, coming up later this week. It’s also one of my favorites. And I believe at least one person is writing on Contempt although I haven’t seen that yet so it’s possible they’ve changed…
Alphaville is my favorite, damn it. When that meme went around Facebook it was the least favorite of everybody I knew, but I love it! And will be writing about it, next week.
Jason, you already know I love this comic. :)
Also apropos of Contempt – today is Fritz Lang’s birthday.
