I’m not that big a fan of Iris Dement, but oh my god is this version of her song amazing.
So what are you all listening to this week?

I’m still listening over and over to the new Efterklang album, which is probably my favorite of the year so far. I especially like the drums in this one, “Apples”:
I’ve also listening again to the recent Dylan record, Tempest, which sounded like an album better suited for the spring than the fall. Here’s the opening track, “Duquesne Whistle”:
And I’ve been playing mostly acoustic guitar this week so when that happens I make my way back to Bert Jansch. Here are “Blackwaterside” and “One for Jo”:
Also: i’ve been listening to some Brazillian choro. Here’s an example with some great images of my fave part of Lisbon at the beginning: the Eastern part. I taught comics not very from the place where they’re playing. The dancers are kind of bleah though (I bet that they’re Portuguese instead of Brazillian), but the tall guy is very good.
Devils and Dust and Walking on a Dream.
Love that song and the cover.
Finished an exercise mix: here. No idea how well this holds up outside the context of, like, approximately an hour of aerobic exercise with a couple starts and starts, but ’tis fine for that purpose.
I’ve also been listening a lot to a childhood favorite I bought used, I Salonisti’s Trans-Siberian Express CD, a selection of Eastern European classical music by Stravinsky, Mussorgsky and Khachaturian as well as folk songs and film melodies. Can’t find anything on youtube but here are a few pieces played by someone else: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCz-w8-ipG8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKPxSwwG0E

Those brushes remind me a little of the drums in one of my favorite Chris Whitley songs, “New Lost World”:

@Brian – Love those Bert Jansch clips!
Have you seen this? It’s Pentangle (with Bert Jansch) in 1970 and 2008. Same lineup, same song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqtnLFMDRdg
I’ve been listening to a lot of Arvo Pärt lately.
