In very sad news, Consuela Francis, who wrote a couple of posts for HU over the years, died earlier this week. Details are here. Consuela was wonderfully smart, and I felt lucky to work with her and get her to write for us. We’ll miss her.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2224026/ It is an excellent movie by Dreamworks. The main heroine is a black girl voiced by Rihanna. As far as combatting the whiteness of heroes/heroines of children’s movie representation, it’s a solid win, in my mind.
Nitpick: The Jungle Book was byt no means in the public domain when Disney made their film;they bought the rights from Kipling’s estate.
